Frequently Asked Questions

What is an independent Baptist Church?

•Being independent simply means that we are not tied to any convention or denomination.  We make all of our decisions locally and are not obligated financially to any group outside the church.

What is the music like?

•We sing exciting soul stirring hymns of the faith, choruses, and spiritual songs but our music is distinctively conservative in style.  We strive to heed the scriptural admonition to sing  “….psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”   Colossians 3:16

What time are services?

•Sunday School is available for all ages at 10:00 AM.  Our morning worship service starts at 11:00 AM.  We also have an evening service at 6:30 PM. Wednesday evenings we start at 7:15 for clubs and 7:30 for Bible Study.

What should I wear?

•We have no dress policy for those who attend Oakwood Baptist Church.   When you come to one of our weekend services, you will find people dressed in a wide variety of styles from casual to very dressy.  We think that what you wear to church should not detract from the worship experience of others around you. We want all of the attention to go to Jesus Christ.

What are the accommodations for the disabled?

•Oakwood Baptist Church is handicap accessible and wheelchair friendly.   Handicap-accessible parking is available near the main entrance. Our ushers can also assist with any special needs that you may have.

What is available for infants and toddlers?

•We have a well-equipped and well-staffed nursery to care for your infants and toddlers.

What children's programs are available?

•During the Sunday School hour at 10:00, we have classes for children of all ages.  On Wednesday evenings the Kids 4 Truth Clubs meet starting at 7:15 while adults and teenagers attend the Bible Study in the auditorium.

What do I do before the service starts?

•If you arrive before the service starts, you will notice that our auditorium is filled with plenty of comfortable seats. There are no reserved seats, so you may sit anywhere. Many people will be greeting one another during this time.

How will I know when to stand?

•The pastor or the music director will ask the congregation to stand or sit. Generally we stand while singing and during times of public prayer.

What is the pastor's message like?

•Pastor Evans preaches directly from the Word of God. His messages are timely and applicable. Audio CDs of the message are also available.

Do you give public invitations at the end of the service?

What are they like?

•At the end of his message, Pastor Evans invites anyone who does not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ to accept Him. This is also a time for personal prayer with God over changes we may need to make in our lives. Counseling is also available for spiritual needs.

Do I need to donate money when I visit?

•No.  As a guest do not feel any obligation to participate in the offering.  We hope that you fill out a Guest Information card, and drop it in the offering plate.
